The Centre of Movement Arts is looking for new members to join our Board of Directors. We are seeking individuals of all ages* and diverse backgrounds with a love of movement and an interest in dance.
The CMA is a nonprofit supporting dance and movement in the Forest City, London, Ontario. Founded in 2017, the CMA is the presenter of the annual London Dance Festival and serves local dance artists through performance and professional development opportunities. The organization also offers programs such as nature walks and dance workshops to get the general public moving, and sometimes grooving as well. Our organization is growing and expanding into new programs for a wider range of participants and audiences. New offerings for the 2022-23 season include a weekly Nature Club for kids and the Young BIPOC Artists Collective mentorship initiative.
The CMA is overseen by an advisory board. The members of the board meet 6-8 times per year (usually virtually). They work with CMA’s Director Bizz Varty and offer advice on organizational infrastructure, programming, policies, hiring, finances, grant applications and strategic planning. Board Members volunteer at CMA events, help in securing community sponsorships, assist with grant writing and editing, and liaise with artists in the community.
Board Members’ roles and responsibilities will evolve as CMA expands their programs to reach more audiences and participants year-round. Our organization would benefit from additional expertise in diverse dance forms; equity, inclusion and social justice; outdoor education; law; and accounting.
Board Members serve 2 year terms, and are typically elected at the AGM in May. Current board members have expertise in professional and recreational dance, ethno-cultural dance, non-profit and arts management, arts policy, social entrepreneurship, finance, event coordination, grant writing, public relations and communications.
