The Centre of Movement Arts is auditioning dancers ages 9-17 for an upcoming choreography project by Bizz Varty. The movement will be contemporary-based, and dancers should have at least 2 years of dance training or self study. Dancers of all styles are welcome to apply. You can learn lots more about the inspiration of the project and the other ways to get involved at www.centreofmovement.ca/doors-open-24.
HOW TO APPLY
Fill out this form and link (or email) 2 videos of you dancing by August 25, Sept 6, 2024. Phone videos are fine, as long as the quality makes it easy to see the dancer’s movements.
Video 1 – Set choreography: 30-60 seconds of you dancing set choreography. This can be a clip from recital, competition, performance, or rehearsal.
Video 2 – Improvisation: 30-60 seconds of you improvising to music of your choice. Please watch this video and use 2 or 3 of the moves you see in your improvisation.
TIME COMMITMENT & SCHEDULE Youth core cast dancers will be committing to 10 hours of preparation, plus the two days of performance. Dancers will learn the dance in a rehearsal intensive on August 31 or September 7 or 8 (time TBA). An on-site dress rehearsal (1.5-2 hours) will be held the week of September 15th (date and time TBA).

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED We’re also looking for volunteer dancers of all ages and abilities to join our Community Cast, plus general volunteers to help with the tour. Contact us or see the website for more info!
PLEASE NOTE: All audition participants will be invited to perform in the Doors Open project, however 8-10 dancers will be chosen for lead roles. Lead dancers will have a greater time commitment for learning the dance. Later in the summer there will be a community participation workshop for non-lead dancers to learn and perform a smaller section of the choreography. This will be open to anyone with any experience and will require a smaller time commitment.
